When I got my Apple MacBook Pro, in 2017, the shopping list did not stop with the laptop. The list of USB type-C dongles required for connecting memory sticks, network cable, monitor, wireless mouse as well as power, took lots of consideration. As laptops from Apple, Lenovo, Dell and others continue to become slimmer, the need for dongles and adapters will grow.
When commuting with a dongle hell laptop, I prefer to be prepared for most eventualities, so I will usually carry more accessories than just the laptop charger. If your bag has plenty of pockets and zipped sections, then they make for great storage, but if not then there is an alternative option. A zipped pouch with elastic straps is a clean and very organised solution, that makes you look very professional and ready for anything. The pouches come in many sizes and offer plenty of protection from ingress of metal parts against your precious laptop.
The flexibility of the USB type C connector
Don’t get me wrong, the fact that USB type C can handle almost anything, makes for a very capable system, whilst keeping the laptop sleek and uncluttered. Unfortunately, it does mean carrying more accessories than usual. USB 3.1 type C dongles can handle power pass-through, ideal for setting up a single cable connection to power your laptop and well as connect to multiple monitors, network, a wired keyboard and mouse as well as to external storage. This allows for a clean looking desk, but with the data transfer rates of 10Gbps
